Basketball or basketball is one of the most practiced sports in the world and, without a doubt, the most important in the place where it originated, the United States. As every game has basic rules for its practice, but the rules of basketball have changed over the years.
Created by a physical education professor at a school in Springfield, United States, in 1891, basketball spread around the world during the 20th century, becoming an Olympic sport since the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin.
Basketball is a sport played by two teams composed of 12 players, with a maximum of 5 players from each team on the court. Each team aims to introduce the basketball into the basket defended by the opponent to get more points, always respecting the rules of the game.
The first regulation was born in 1891 and had 13 rules devised by Professor James Naismith for the first basketball game. With the passing of the years, the practices of basketball have evolved, thanks in large part to the creation of the professional leagues, the NBA (National Basketball Association), and FIBA (International Basketball Federation).
The main rules of basketball to any basketball game are the following
- Duration: a match consists of four quarters, with a total of 40 minutes of the match to which must be added, The Dead times, the balls out, and the interruptions that can occur in each game.

- Doubles: the player who has the ball in his possession boots and stops doing so, must pass or throw, but cannot pitch again.
- Backfield: when the attacking team passes the ball to the opposing field, they cannot back down to their side of the court during that play.
- Feet: the basketball cannot touch the feet of a player generating an advantage if it does the possession of the ball to be the possession of the opposing team.
Infringements related to peak times:
Possession by play: when a team has possession of the ball, it has a maximum of 24 seconds to try to make a shot. If I didn’t, I’d lose the property. Usually, at the referee tables, they have holding markers.
- Three seconds: a player when his team attacks cannot spend more than three seconds in the restricted one. If this happens, the ball passes to the opposite team.
- Five seconds: the player has a total of five seconds to put the ball in play.
- Eight seconds: when a team has possession, it has a total of 8 seconds to move from the defensive zone to the offensive.
- Illegal defense: a player during testimony cannot spend more than three seconds in the 3-second zone without defending an attacker. In the event of this offense, it is punishable by a free throw plus possession. This rule applies only to NBA games.
The scoring system of the game of basketball has three types of baskets: points 2 (if made in the time of the game from a distance inside of the line of 6.75 m), the ends of 3 (launch more away from the range of 6.75 m) or the free-throw line for 1 point).
